Chicago native Denise Coleman is performing in the production.
“I will be performing in the Aladdin scene and in the opening number, ‘Magic is Here’,” said Coleman who is an ensemble dancer. “I love performing with Disney. I have had a love for Disney since I was a little girl. When you watch the movies at home, and now you are in a live production of movies you watched at home, it is wonderful. I also like the fact that I can inspire and move people in the 90 minutes that we have them for the show.”
Mickey and Minnie’s Doorway to Magic is being presented by Feld Entertainment, the worldwide leader in producing and presenting live touring family entertainment experiences that lift the human spirit and create indelible memories. Over 30 million people attend its shows each year.
“I auditioned for this company five years ago and have been with them ever since,” said Coleman. “I auditioned four times in Orlando and once in Chicago. I just kept trying and trying, and finally got the call. I was shocked, but so full of gratitude. Prior to that, I worked at Disney World in Orlando, FL, where I performed in parades and shows.”
The 29-year-old added, “I was an athlete growing up and did gymnastics in high school. I loved the floor routine and fell in love with dance. I wanted to dance for the rest of my life. I studied and trained. I found my passion early and worked hard for it.”
Mickey and Minnie’s Doorway to Magic features several breath-taking scenes, including Cinderella’s stunning gown transformation and Mickey’s command over a lively set of brooms. The show also features audience interaction with Disney characters using magic words given by Tinker Bell. When Mickey and friends encourage families to wiggle their fingers, stomp the ground and make some magic all around, the resulting fantastical feats assist in moving along the plot and immersing the theater in Disney magic.
“Mickey and Minnie’s Doorway to Magic is a very interactive and musically-driven show,” said Coleman. “The show features classic characters like Snow White and newer characters for millennials like Jasmin of Aladdin. I am very excited to be back here in Baltimore. This show is fun for everyone, and we are encouraging everyone to come out and see it.”
