  • Indie Soul Music Video of the Week: "Love vs Like" Messiah Ramkissoon & Marcell Russell

The Story: Hassan is a bit of an urban prodigy when it comes to public speaking, mathematics and writing. His wife Melissa has loved him for that since high school but Hassan won't let go of his passion for poetry. Melissa has followed Hassan to every poetry-reading and coffee house for five years hoping his dream of being able to perform full time would pay off all the while holding off on her own dreams. He promised Melissa that if no opportunities came his way within five years of trying he would simply pursue a career with her in building their other business. Five years had come and gone and Hassan planned on keeping his promise to until he heard about a huge audition at the Chesapeake Arts Center. He got caught up because he had longtime hopes of sharing the stage with some of his musical heroes for one night. His material was dated so he begins writing on the train while headed to the audition but he couldn't get Melissa out his mind so he just started writing about her love for him. Hassan was a long-shot at best to be chosen and on top of that he is late and barely makes it to the audition. He rushes on stage and within seconds his words begin to freeze the judges. For the first time in his life he wins and is chosen but he declines as he thinks about his promise to his wife. He runs out the building hoping to catch up with her and the potential investors for their scheduled the business presentation. Melissa is struggling to present their business plans. These ideas were Hassan's not hers and he did all the presenting up til this moment. Melissa only handled the books and usually behind the scenes so she could not keep it together to present. Just as she was about to give up and the investors were considering leaving the meeting Hassan rushes in and shares his ideas and they love his presentation. Hassan and Melissa are given $150,000 to start their business venture. Hassan learned yet another difference between simply liking his wife and loving his wife.

  • Indie Soul Music Video of the Week: Selection Process- Mike Body featuring Devin

Directed By New Mask Media... Selection Process is NOW available on Amazon Mike Body was born and raised in West Baltimore, Md., on the gritty streets of Poplar Grove. Mike’s decision to make a change in his life was initiated by the series of events that ensued after a night that he will never forget. A very close friend of his named Mark Ske and an uncle of his (Ronald Hill) both died violently on the same night. The death of Mark Ske moved another friend of Mike’s named Miles to focus on the Lord at the time. Miles in turn exposed Mike to the gospel of Jesus Christ and he gave his life to the Lord on March 28th. Mike didn’t take rapping as an artist seriously while he was coming up, but he was influenced by the music of mainstream artist such as Jay-Z, Nas, 2pac.. He and his close friend Mark Ske use to write raps for fun and joke about doing music one day. Recently Mike revealed that the first real song he ever wrote was a tribute to his friend Mark Ske. Shortly after that, in the early 2000's Mike started rapping with an up and coming hip-hop group called The Nocklist where he rapped with great lyricists like D.E.T, 200, Yella, Scriptz and 600 Rush. During that time, Mike wasn’t taking his Christian life seriously but through God’s love and undeserved grace, Mike was given time to repent and return to the Lord. As he became more faithful to the Lord, he decided to retire from rap for good, but a brother in Christ name Kevin Alston approached him about using his talent in a spiritual way. Kevin said, “Put God at the heart of your music” and with those words he encouraged Mike to return to rap, and formed a partnership which gave birth to the group called We Are B.N.C. Since then, Mike has received critical acclaim and moderate success as a solo artist with the release of what some people believe to be 2 classic albums: The Obituary and The Autopsy Report. Currently Mike has released another well received album titled The Last Epistle. Throughout his career Mike Body has inspired other rap artists to make Christian based music as well. Through his ups and downs, Mike Body continues to keep Jesus at the center of his life, which reflects in his music.
